Roulette Etiquette
Introduction
The etiquette of roulette is fairly obvious, and when playing online many of these rules do not even come up. Nonetheless, here are the most important rules of casino roulette etiquette for when you decide to take your game to a live table.
Etiquette: Simple and Straightforward
- Placing Bets – Place your bets when the croupier announces that you may. You will be given plenty of time to do so. Do not touch any of the chips on the table, not even your own, after the croupier has announced “No more bets”. Wait until all payouts have been made and the dolly has been removed.
- Arguing Over Bets – Call bets are courtesy bets, and the croupier may decide not to take them if there is no time for this. The croupier will announce “No Bet” when not able to take a call bet. It is extremely rude to argue over this with the croupier.
- Be Considerate to Other Players – It’s fairly obvious that you shouldn’t laugh at other players when you win and they lose. Try to keep your emotions somewhat in check.
- Know The Rules – Do not bother other players with questions about rules you should already be aware of if you join a table. Players join the table to enjoy their game, not to get quizzed. Surely, you wouldn’t enjoy a nagging neighbour either?
- Tipping the Dealer – Where permitted by the casino, it is polite to tip the dealer.
- Items at the Table – The player is allowed to place chips, cigarettes, drinks and money (though no wallets) in front of him at the table. Holding any of them over the table is not allowed, and not wise either. Casinos often have a “table fee” you will be forced to pay if you spill anything on the table or otherwise stain it.
- Dealing with the Dealer – For security reasons it is not permitted to exchange money or chips hand to hand with the croupier. Place the money or chips your wish to exchange on the table for the croupier to take, the croupier will do the same when returning money or chips to you.
