Roulette Bets

Introduction

Here is an overview of the bets you can make in roulette.

Inside Bets

Inside bets are bets that are be placed anywhere on the number betting area of the roulette table, and include the following bets:

  • Straight-up (En Plein) – A bet placed on a single number. The chip is placed on top of the number in the middle of the square.
  • Split – A bet placed on two numbers that are next to each other on the table. The chip is placed on the line between the two numbers.
  • Street (Transversale) – A bet placed on three numbers in a row on the table. The chip is placed on the left outside line of the row you are playing.
  • Trio – A bet placed on the three numbers 0,1,2 or 00, 2, 3. The chip is placed on the intersection of the lines dividing these numbers on the table.
  • Corner (CarrĂ©) – A bet placed on four adjoining numbers on the table. The chip is placed on the intersection of the lines between the four numbers.
  • Six Line (Sixaine) – A bet placed on two adjoining streets. The chip is placed on the intersection between these two streets and the left outside line.

Outside Bets

These are bets made on the sections of the roulette table that is not the number section. bets are placed in the designated areas. Outside bets include the following bets:

  • 1-18 (Manque) – A bet that the winning number will be any of the numbers from 1 up to and including 18.
  • 19-36 (Passe) – A bet that the winning number will be any of the numbers from 19 up to and including 36.
  • Red or Black (Rouge/Noir) – A bet that the winning number will be red/black.
  • Odd or Even (Pair/Impair) – A bet that the winning number will be odd/even.
  • Dozen (Douzaine) – A bet that the winning number will be among the 1st (1-12), 2nd (13-24), 3rd (25-36) set of twelve numbers.
  • Column (Colonne) – A bet that the winning number will be in the 1st (1-34), 2nd (2-35), 3rd (3-36) column from the top to the bottom of the number section of table.

Call Bets

These are bets classified by sector of the wheel rather than of the table and are “called” or announced. They are also called the French bets, and relate to the layout of the European roulette wheel. The chips are placed on the number section of the table. Call bets include the following bets:


(Grand) Voisins du Zero

  • Numbers – A bet placed on the 17 numbers around the wheel from 22 up to and including 25. Clockwise along the wheel these are the numbers 22,18,29,7,28,12, 35,3,26,0,32,15,19,4,21,2,25.
  • Chips – 9 or multiples of 9 chips are bet. 2 chips on trio 0,2,3, and 2 on the 25/26/28/29 corner, 1 chip is placed on each of the following splits: 4/7, 12/15, 18/21, 19/22, and 32/35.

Tiers du Cylindre

  • Numbers – Also known as Series 5/8, these are twelve of the numbers on the other side of the wheel, clockwise along the wheel these numbers are 27,13,36,11,30,8,23,10,5,24,16,33.
  • Chips – 6 or multiples of 6 chips are bet. I chip is placed on each of the 5/8, 10/11, 13/16, 23/24, 27/30, and 33/36 splits.

Orphelins

  • Numbers – The two pie slices left on the wheel between the above two call bets are known as the Orphelins, or Orphans. They are the sequences 17,34,6 and 1,20,14,31,9.
  • Chips – 5 or multiples of 5 chips are bet. One is placed on the 1, and 1 chip is placed on the splits 6/9, 14/17, 17/20 and 31/34.

Zero Spiel

  • Numbers – This is a German bet, although it is more commonly known as Jeu Zero, made on the sequence of numbers closest to zero on the wheel. clockwise along the wheel these are the numbers 12, 35, 3, 26, 0, 32, 15.
  • Chips – 4 or multiples of 4 chips are bet. 1 chip is bet on 26, and 1 chip on each of the following splits, 0/3, 12-15, and 32-35.

XX and the neighbours

  • Numbers – The “xx” stands for any number the player chooses to bet on, and the neighbours are the two numbers to each side of that number on the wheel.
  • Chips – 5 or multiples of five chips are bet. 1 chip is placed straight up on every number.
