First Casino in Singapore Opens

Singapore’s first casino opened on Sunday to a bit of frustration on the part of its customers. The casino was expected to attract many foreign visitors, moving the country along towards a more “service-based economy”, and so it did, though service had to cope with a number of teething problems right off the bat.

There was confusion about the dress code, and amenities where soon overwhelmed by the large visitor turnout, but most frustrating of all to foreign visitors was the 100m queue to get in. Waiters scurried around handing out refreshments to the guests in the line, and eventually the crowd outside abated, but visitor numbers surged again later that evening, and the casino had to close its doors to visitors in the small hours of the night.
